School Vacation Week at the Gardiner Public Library

We had a wonderfully full school vacation week here in the library. Story time & crafts were on Tuesday morning at 10:30, then a Bugs, Bugs, Bugs program & craft with L.C. Bates Museum in the afternoon funded by Crossroads Youth Center and through a generous grant received by the Maine Community Foundation.  Thursday was an Origami Fish Folding Workshop.  Each program had a great number of people in attendance.

Other things happening were Legos, as well as the train set, doll house, and Puppet Theater. We were so happy here with all the participation for each event. This is what every library dreams of doing during a week off from school.
So thanks to all who came and to all who helped with these events. A special thank you goes to Abby Gifford, Deb, Isabelle and Griffin Files, Upstream, Crossroads Youth Center, and Maine Community Foundation.
Here are some photos from this fabulous week.

Programs in the Children’s Room

We have some great children’s groups that meet during the week. Maybe you can join us sometime.

Tuesday @ 10:30 is Storytime. I read 3 to 4 books and have a song to go along with the stories. Then we do a craft each week with the help of a volunteer. This helps the children with their fine motor skills. We cut or paste or paint. Anything to keep our hands and minds busy.
Tuesday, February 16th, @ 10:30 we have a special event by Tina Wood. She will tell a fishy tale of the alewives swimming home on Cobbossee Stream here in Gardiner. Everyone is invited to paint a fish that will be part of an outdoor community sculpture. Wear old clothes and come join the creative fun!
A big thank you goes out to the Gardiner Creativity Fund for the support of this specific program.
Friday @ 10:00 is Babies Loves Babies. This program socializes younger children through play and music. Familiar songs that are played through the morning will acquaint the toddlers with the melodies and words.
We are planning to start a Lego group soon! Please consider donating your gently used Legos to the Gardiner Public Library’s Children’s room.
See you in the Children’s Room!

Giraffes In The Library!

The children’s room of the Gardiner Public Library has recently received a large quantity of new LEGO building pieces through the largess of the LEGO Company & distributed by the Maine State Library Emergent/Family Literacy and Children’s Services Department.

We plan to sponsor a monthly club giving children (adults too) a theme or idea of something to create using the blocks.  Our first creations were “Giraffes”.  We have 7 delightful examples on display & hopefully more will be built during the month of November.
Come on into the library and make a giraffe to join the others.
And next month we’ll make an airplane!
