What’s Happening In The Library

As we roll into fall, school starting, apple picking, falling leaves, etc. etc., I took a few minutes to reflect on how busy we were over the summer months. And it has been a busy summer here at the Gardiner Public Library.  We had 18,793 people walk through our doors. THE CHILDREN’S ROOM

The value of the public library is often underestimated, especially with regard to the impact on education. Specifically, the public library plays a major role in helping children learn to read, as well as develop reading skills and comprehension. For example, the Children’s Room here at Gardiner Public Library offers a wealth of knowledge. Treats In The Library!

We have had a very busy month here in the library! When I sat down to write this blog post, my plan was to only mention the various programs and events that happened in the Hazzard Reading Room.  Believe me there were several well attended events, but I would have missed several more, and the more included over 600 people!!! Saturday at the library!

The Gardiner Public Library is a great place to spend your winter!  The library staff wants you to spend some time enjoying the great programs we have booked.  Last Saturday the library was bustling in all the rooms.  We had Story Hour up in our Children’s Room.  We offer Saturday Story Hour the first Saturday of every month and Babies Love Babies Play Time every Friday from 10-11AM.  We had a Henna Happy Hour in our teen section and we also scheduled a Fireside Chat with State Representative, Gay Grant.  Look for more of these chats in the future. Summer Reading Wrap Up

Congratulations to all the children and young adults who participated in our Summer Reading Program “Dream Big Read”.  There were 126 of you who read an outstanding number of books between June 18th and August 4th.  Gift certificates, Sea Dogs vouchers, Old Fort Western passes and grab bag prizes were among the rewards.  Many children participated in our weekly story hour and craft times as well.  New fairy houses were built and taken to the Fairy Village to replace those destroyed by vandals earlier this year.      Great job everyone! Summer Reading Fun!!

The children and young adult Summer Reading Program Dream Big Read! Is underway!  This year the ONLY rules are that books must be at an individual’s reading level, and that they be checked out of the library overnight. – WOW how great is that?? Free choice for EVERY book recorded on an individual’s chart.  For each completed book a reader or listener may choose a grab bag, with a limit of 10 prizes per participant. We continue to have Preschool Story Hour on Tuesdays at 10:30 with a preschool craft.  This summer we have added a craft time for those …
