Gardiner Head Start Art Exhibit is on display in the Children’s Room until Saturday, May 19th. Take some time out of your busy week to come and see the wonderful student works. Museums

Maine has some other great art museums besides the Portland Museum of Art that are perhaps not necessarily on your radar.  For future planning, I would like to suggest an upcoming exhibit at the Bates College Museum of Art at the Olin Arts Center in Lewiston.  Beginning in June and running until October, Bates College Museum of Art will be featuring Maine’s own Dahlov Ipcar in a show that is drawn mainly from private collections.  Find out more about this exciting exhibit at the Bates College Museum of Art web site – http://www.bates.edu/museum/exhibitions/upcoming/dahlov-ipcar-a-life-in-the-arts/    

ART @ the Library

Have you seen our new program? With the help of local artist, Isabelle Files, and the children’s room staff we have started a program called ART @ the Library. Once a month on a Tuesday evening at 6:00 in the Children’s room we are doing an art project for all ages. The first event was September 26th, featuring origami. We had fun making animals, boxes, and other items. On October 24th we did apple and leaf printing. Our youngest attendees loved working with the paint, and we got very creative. June is Art Month at the Gardiner Public Library!

Local artist, Mario Del Rio, a.k.a. Cuba, is sponsoring the month of June at Gardiner Public Library for our Year of Reading. Mario, or Cuba as he says people know him, has donated at piece of his artwork for our June drawing.  Kan 2 Kanvas is the name of this new business venture for Mario.  His medium is spray paint and water in a spray bottle.  All of his art is as “green” as he can make it.  Mario uses recycled or found materials when he is creating – an example of this can be found at the library.  This …
