Music in the library!

How about a musical blast from the 1960s?  Aside from having musical CDs by some great girl groups (The Supremes, The Ronettes, The Shangri-Las) and some super boy bands (The Rascals, Lovin’ Spoonful, The Monkees), the library also has two specialty CDs that feature this era.  The first is a CD that is set up as if you were listening to a radio show from 1967.  It presents popular songs of that year complete with commercials and features Dr. Don Rose, the disc jockey from WQXL in Atlanta.  The other item is a series produced by Time-Life that each focuses on a specific year.
For example, 1966 contains:
California dreamin’ / The Mamas and the Papas — Good vibrations / The Beach Boys — Sunny / Bobby Hebb — Daydream / The Lovin’ Spoonful –Elusive butterfly / Bob Lind — You don’t have to say you love me / Dusty Springfield — A groovy kind of love / The Mindbenders — Bang bang (my baby shot me down) / Cher — See you in September / The Happenings — Message to Michael / Dionne Warwick — When a man loves a woman / Percy Sledge — You can’t hurry love / The Supremes — I’m a believer / The Monkees — Sweet talkin’ guy / The Chiffons — Cherish / The Association — She’s just my style / Gary Lewis and the Playboys — You didn’t have to be so nice / The Lovin’ spoonful — Georgy girl / The Seekers — Winchester Cathedral / The New Vaudeville Band — My love / Petula Clark — (You’re my) soul and inspiration / The Righteous Brothers — I’m so lonesome I could cry / B.J. Thomas and the Triumphs.

A salute to our wonderful library volunteers!

Although we try to recognize & reward our faithful unpaid helpers throughout the year, the general population is probably unaware of the many hours donated by these outstanding men & women.  Many have a specific task that they complete or progress with each visit.  Their chores include inventory checking, story time programming, shelving, magazine maintenance, book sale support plus a myriad of other tasks.  Their loyalty and assistance to the library is prodigious.  Several have contributed decades of time and energy to the Gardiner Public Library.
Many thanks and heartfelt appreciation to these outstanding patrons.
